Hulu is actively working on the return of Futurama with nearly all of its original voice cast; That includes John DiMaggio, the beloved voice behind Futurama’s Bender who previously stopped rebooting due to his push to get a bigger payday for rebooting. Soon, the actor finally stepped up to the project. Now, DiMaggio himself has revealed what the viewer was planning to do if he didn’t return. According to the actor, the operator planned to feature a group of guest actors in the role, with Bender’s voice changing episode after episode.
DiMaggio made the reveal on Saturday at Phoenix Fan Fusion, where he also told fans that putting his negotiations on hold did not end up paying him a higher wage for his return.
“People are like, I’m so glad you got more money!” Dimaggio (via/film). “I didn’t get any more money. But what I did get was a lot of respect, a lot of head nods from people like, ‘Brother, I see you and thank you.'” “
It’s unclear what made DiMaggio change his mind, but he confirmed he’ll be back for a reboot in March.
“You’re back, my baby! I’m so grateful for the love and support of fans and colleagues alike for all this time (especially my wife, Kate), and can’t wait to get back to work with my ‘Futurama’ family,” DiMaggio shared in a new statement.
‘The #Bendergate is officially over, so put it on the back of one of the shelves behind the Christmas decorations, or maybe in that kitchen drawer with all the other crap you put in there like crazy old unusable glue, or maybe just put it in a jar you can keep the wind in. Whatever. What floats on your boat, I don’t care, you’ll get the picture. You’re back, baby! Biting my shiny metallic!”
Dimaggio returns with Billy West, Katie Sagal, Trace McNeil, Maurice Lamarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar and David Herman. Show co-creator Matt Groening also celebrated the actor’s return with a short message, saying, “From the moment John Dimaggio auditioned last century, we knew we had a bender. So congratulations to everyone at Futurama.” We’re all back, baby! “
